From Ground to the Moon:
Transforming Wastewater Treatment For Good!

Mixanox-PIJAMA® represents a significant leap in wastewater treatment innovation. Through the utilisation of plunging microbubbles, this technology achieves a remarkable mass-transfer efficiency improvement of up to 90%, equivalent to six times that of diffused aeration. Furthermore, it delivers a notable 50% reduction in energy consumption and plays a pivotal role in reducing N2O emissions by up to 95%, aligning with crucial climate action objectives.

Key Features:

  • Rapid plug-in installation, seamlessly integrating with existing processes,
  • Utilisation of globally available non-proprietary parts and equipment,
  • Simple assembly and maintenance by local plumbing professionals,
  • Minimal servicing time required, manageable by any plant operator.

The Mixanox-PIJAMA® system is remarkably versatile, capable of aspirating atmospheric air without the need for compressors. Moreover, it enables on-demand pure oxygen injection to effectively manage hydraulic fluctuations, ensuring consistent effluent performance.

The Mixanox-PIJAMA® system is highly adaptable, compatible with a range of reactor types such as aerobic, anoxic, anaerobic, and oxic systems. It offers the potential for process capacity intensification and retrofitting by integrating hybrid processes like MBBR and MABR. Additionally, the technology can harness byproduct oxygen from water electrolysis for green hydrogen generation. This capability is relevant not only in today's terrestrial applications but also in future lunar-based green hydrogen generation hubs, which will rely on water reclamation facilities for sustainable operation.

Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) span from TRL 5 to TRL 9 for various applications of the invention. Two full-scale pilot demonstrations (TRL 8) and the subsequent first commercial installation in an aerobic reactor sold to the Build In Canada Innovation Program showcase a TRL of 9.
